Celebrating Three MidSouth Emmy Wins for Requiem for Colour
We are honored to share news first reported by Belmont University. Requiem for Colour: A Journey through Lament and Joy has won three MidSouth Emmy Awards.
The awards were presented February 14 at Belmont's Fisher Center for the Performing Arts by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, celebrating the televised performance that aired on Nashville PBS in June 2025.

More Than a Decade in the Making: From Belmont to the World
Composed and conducted by Dr. Jeffery L. Ames, director of choral activities and professor in Belmont University's School of Music, the work is more than a decade in the making.
As reported in the Belmont University story, Ames shared:
"Since 2022, the process of composing, editing and finalizing the musical content for performance and publication, and winning three MidSouth Emmy Awards has definitely been a 'journey through lament and joy'. I truly believe God has greater plans for this work to have a prismatic effect around the world, which all stems from Belmont."
The premiere production featured nearly 200 singers from Belmont and Tennessee State University, a powerhouse orchestra, soloists, dancers and dynamic orators. The broadcast audio was captured by Dr. Doyuen Ko and 10 students from his Remote Recording class.
Belmont also noted the production was supported by the Creative Arts Collective for Christian Life & Faith, funded by a $32 million grant from Lilly Endowment Inc., and has since expanded internationally with a London performance in summer 2025.

“I was very happy. I was very proud. I was very humbled. I had so much energy and excitement that I could not sleep,” Ames said.
Daytime Emmy Award Nomination
Requiem for Colour: A Journey through Lament and Joy has been nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award in the category of Outstanding Regional Content in a Daytime Genre.
Presented by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS), the nomination marks a move from regional to national recognition for the PBS-broadcast performance, with winners for the 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards to be announced on October 30, 2026.
